Playing Catch Up

Image
It has obviously been a very long time since we last posted an "Updike Update." Garrett is the master blogger, but since he started school and is extremely busy, I have finally relented and will catch you up on the past few months. St. George Trip! A few weeks before we were to leave Las Vegas and head back to South Bend, our good friends, Randy, Nicole, Kinsey, and Jordan invited us to come and stay with them for a weekend in St. George. We had a marvelous time going to dinner and playing in the pool with them. Cute Farnsworth Family! Baby Shower in Utah! On our way back to South Bend, we stopped in Utah for a short weekend visit. While there, my sweet mom and sister decided I must have a baby shower because we wouldn't be back to Utah until way after the baby is born. I still can't get over how very generous everyone is. We were really spoiled with the baby gifts! I feel very blessed! My mom made the sweetest baby bassinet! Baby gifts galore . . . we are so e...

Viva Las Vegas!

As most of you know, we have been spending our summer in sunny Las Vegas. So far, we have really enjoyed it. Christina loves the heat, which sometimes gets up to 112 - Blazing hot! In fact, after I leave for work, she turns off the AC in our house cause she likes it warm. I guess the thermostat will be our constant battle - I always try to get it down to 70 and she likes it up around 80. As you can imagine, there is a lot going on in Las Vegas. Last week, Christina's brother Grant came and stayed with us for the week. Since we have been married, Christina and I have discovered that we are pretty boring people. We enjoy just hanging out at the house and watching TV. But we wanted to make sure that Grant didn't leave thinking his brother-in-law and sister were lame, so we tried to be entertaining. That meant that we had to spread out our ideas of fun so that it would last the whole week. So here is a recap of what happened: Day 1 Grant had never been to In-N-Out so we ...

What does this mean?

So Christina decided to take one of those pregnancy things and this was what came up... Anyone know what it means? Pretty cool, huh?! We are very excited! The due date is around the end of January, so it is still pretty early, but very exciting.

Barfing, Bowling and Blue Bell

After school ended, we had about 1 month before my internship started in Las Vegas. So we decided to spend a couple of weeks visiting my family in good ole' Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. After realizing we have accumulated WAY too much stuff, then loading all that stuff into a storage unit, we started the 11 hour drive to BA. We got to my house at about 9:00pm that night and very much enjoyed visiting with my parents. At about 11:00pm, we decided to crash for the night. Right about the time we turned out the light, I said to Christina, "I am feeling a little nauseous all of the sudden." Her reply was "Me too!" We managed to make it through the night alright, but the next morning, we woke up with a NASTY case of food poisoning. It was absolutely awful. Our first full day in Oklahoma was spent getting way too familiar with the toilet - No fun at all!! We have traced it back to one of two restaurants, and have added them both to our "Banned" list for ...

Africa, Here We Come!!!

So with the first year of our experience at Notre Dame coming to a close, we decided to splurge a bit. I have always wanted to go on an African Safari... so I convinced Christina that we should pack our bags and head to Kenya for a week so we could check out the wildlife... OK, so we really didn't go on a safari (although we will someday when we have a lot of money!), but we did go to the Potowatomi Zoo. Now it's nothing like what you might see in San Diego or Chicago, but it's not bad for such a small zoo. It is definitely something fun to do in booming South Bend! The MBA program has a Family Life Club and for it's last activity we had a picnic lunch at the zoo. Christina and I were the only ones without kids, but it was really fun. I like to play with the tigers. This little guy and I got along really well! And can you tell how excited Christina is to play with... Well, we have no idea what that thing is, but Christina sure liked it! Monkeys make me laugh. Ap...
