Youth Conference

Garrett and I had the opportunity to head up youth conference for our ward this year.  Though we felt quite inadequate for this assignment, we know that we were guided and directed in our efforts to make this a fun and spiritually uplifting event for our wonderful youth.

As Garrett and I were discussing possible themes for youth conference, we knew we wanted something that correlated with the mutual theme of the year, which is, “Come Unto Christ.”  As we pondered this theme, we discussed why it is so important to “Come Unto Christ.”  We live in a time where the adversary is very subtle in his tactics.  One of his greatest tools is to attack our faith.  What used to be easily discernible as good or evil, the world has polluted and filled with gray.  While the church’s standards haven’t changed, the world would make us think that this gray area is acceptable and even normal.
Because of this we recognize how truly important it is to be secure in our faith.  As we continued to be prayerful, we knew almost instantaneously what our theme should be:

                                                 ANCHORED TO CHRIST

Ether 12:4

Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.

Though it rained most of the time and we were unable to do several of the activities that were planned. . . the youth were such troopers and we hope that they enjoyed their experience.

Rock Climbing -  Learning to be physically and spiritually anchored.

My most favorite part about youth conference was an activity called, "Journey Through the Scriptures."  My heart was filled with joy and I truly felt the Spirit testifying of the truthfulness of the gospel as I listened to several ward members share scriptural accounts/experiences about how their characters were anchored to Christ.
"Hyrum Smith"
 "Abraham"
 "Mary and Martha"
"Alma the Younger"

"Elisha"
While it was very stressful and overwhelming, we feel so blessed that we were able to participate in this conference with these wonderful youth.  Our testimonies were strengthened and fortified.  We know that as we anchor ourselves to Christ, we will be protected from the adversary!
